Artists’ Alley is pleased to present a new exhibit by Kofi Bazzell-Smith. Bazzell-Smith’s “Uncanny Juxtapositions” is a series of collages featuring art from two manga with opposing themes. Azuki is an action-comedy set in a fantastical world where Rock Paper Scissors is a serious martial art. Karasu is a drama about loss and accepting the inevitability of death. By pairing pessimistic realism with positive and imaginative fantasy, the exhibit juxtaposes tragic elements of the human condition with the speculation of an unlimited future and creates a narrative in the space “between the panels” while highlighting the power of intercultural exchange as a vehicle for knowledge production.
The opening reception is this Wednesday, January 25 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Bazzell-Smith will give a brief talk and answer your questions beginning at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
