McKinley Life

The McKinley Foundation and McKinley Memorial Presbyterian Church are separate organizations joined by a shared desire to be a center of abundant hope for the students at the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana and the Champaign County community at large. Established together in 1906 these sibling organizations share a fervor for social justice and a love of the arts.

In 2020, we watched as the world changed around us in a variety of ways. An unprecedented global pandemic highlighted the inequities of American society, and will continue to do so for years to come. Simultaneously, systemic prejudice against people of color made these disparities uncomfortably stark. McKinley Presbyterian Church and Foundation, seek to reaffirm our commitment to trying to right these systemic wrongs in our own communities.

We welcome all persons, including LGBTQIA+, to join our efforts to be the change we wish to see in the world. We draw strength from a balance of diversity and common ground. McKinley welcomes people who may have doubted the existence of a fully welcoming church; people from a wide range of faith backgrounds; and people who may have been disillusioned or hurt by churches in the past.

McKinley Activities

Events

McKinley sponsors a variety of events in the foundation and church buildings that reflect our values and the talents of our community. Due to COVID-19, events have been held virtually using Zoom, but thankfully we are beginning to cautiously and safely schedule in person events.

Learn and Serve

As a social justice focused church and foundation, we offer many opportunities to take action through self-improvement, service to others, and actions against injustice. Our McKinley Giving Garden grows produce that is then distributed through McKinley’s Food Pantry at Garden Hills.

Fellowship

McKinley provides regular opportunities for students, Church members, friends, and visitors to socialize. Though COVID-19 reduced the in-person options, we have found ways to connect online or outside.

Youth and Families

Children and youth are cherished members of the McKinley family. In a creative and nurturing environment, we aim to foster an understanding of faith, a sense of belonging to a church family, and a commitment to the community at large.
