We All Eat!

From Cindy Shepherd, Green Team Member at McKinley and on the Staff of Faith in Place:

Did you know our food system is shaped in many ways by federal legislation called “The Farm Bill.” The Farm Bill comes up for discussion and revision every five years. This is the year!

Now is the time when McKinley folks can encourage our Senators and Representatives in Congress to strengthen the bill in ways that support projects serving families who have trouble affording enough good healthy food, like McKinley’s Giving Garden and Garden Hills Food Pantry. The Farm Bill can also incentivize agricultural practices to reduce pollution and preserve Central Illinois’ farms and farmland.

To encourage a more just and generous Farm Bill, click here and send a message to your legislators. You can sign what’s written or add your own food/farm/faith story.

To learn more, listen to a recording of our August Monthly Call with Traci Barkley, a local farmer from Sola Gratia.

Our legislators want and need to hear from people of faith as they sort through the Farm Bill this fall. Contact them early and often!
