Connie Bandy and Barbara England are presenting a morning workshop on Saturday, Feb. 29: “Preparing to Become: A Miniretreat to Begin Lent.” Connie, an ordained Presbyterian minister, was formerly McKinley’s director of Christian education and currently serves at Community UCC as director of the John Bandy Center for Spirituality and Faith and a parish associate.
Using the book Becoming Bread by Gunilla Norris, Connie and Barbara will use the process of bread making as an invitation to go deeper throughout the Lenten season with themes of transformation. The book will be available for optional purchase for $15 at the retreat. Connie and Barbara will also introduce a way of prayer that combines lectio divina and Praying in Color, will make prayer journals and Lenten kits that can be used in a variety of ways, and will celebrate communion.
WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 29, 8:30 to noon (the space will open at 8, with light munchies available)
WHERE: St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 905 S. Russell, Champaign
COST: $15
