Worship on May 31

May 31 is Pentecost Sunday—the day the Christian church celebrates its birthday. The choir will sing, teachers will be recognized, the worship service will feature symbols of the Holy Spirit—flames, doves, and water . . . and especially wind—symbolizing the breath of God.
And yet, not all of God’s children are able to breathe freely these days.
Therefore, as part of our celebration this Pentecost, McKinley will also offer prayers of lament and issue a challenge to action to name racism (our own and that of others) and begin anew our efforts to dismantle racist actions in our society.
This is holy work and must be done. Yet what can we do while we wait out this pandemic from our homes? If you have ideas and inspirations on next steps in fighting racism that you would like to share with the McKinley community, you may send them to Pastor Heidi (h-weatherford@mckinley-church.org).
